             abstract = "The way that the land was occupied and its uses by men have been 
                         shown to be incompatible with the fragile relationship among the 
                         ecosystems physical and biotic components. The anthropogenic 
                         action had already subtracted and made disappear important 
                         ecosystems. The occupation process of the lands of the Paran{\'a} 
                         State almost decimated the forests, which had 83.4% of its total 
                         area covered by forests and nowadays has approximately only 9% of 
                         forest coverage. The Northwest region of Paran{\'a} State is a 
                         critical one, considering that the forest coverage is less than 1% 
                         of its total area. In this study was analyzed the spatial and 
                         temporal of riparian forests (RF) in one area of Iva{\'{\i}} 
                         River Watershed using satellite/sensor GeoEye-1 images, using the 
                         red (R), green (G) and blue (B) bands beyond the panchromatic band 
                         of the year of 2010, and aerial photographs scale 1: 50,000 of the 
                         year 1970. For the comparative evaluation of RF between the years 
                         1970 and 2010 it was selected the Paranava{\'{\i}} stream and 
                         tributaries. With the images scanned, the areas of RF were 
                         delimited. There was a substantial increase on the RF between 
                         cited years, which practically quadrupled. This fact may have been 
                         caused by the awareness of the landowners about the importance of 
                         these areas for improving local environmental quality, by actions 
                         of incentive from government programs to restore the RF, by legal 
                         requirements imposed on landowners by inspection programs, or all 
                         the motivations together.",
